The final customer requested a CO2 footprint for the products (including a roadmap for long-term reduction) as a prerequisite for further contracts

A CO2 footprint including optimization approaches was created for the product family.

Approach:

Firstly, all materials and manufacturing processes were identified based on the bill of materials (incl. country-specific manufacturing footprint). Complex value streams were also modelled using Covalex knowledge.

These were then evaluated using the Covalex CO2 model and optimization of 25% were identified. Approximately 17% of this was attributable to raw materials and 8% to alternative manufacturing processes.

A subsequent project to realize this potential was launched together with our customer.
